TREND FI DI CHALLENGE.

HELLO BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE !

okay so I'm sure you've looked at my topic like..

 

like what in the world is a "trend fi di challenge." HA ! stay tuned and you'll definitely find out. 

Now, there's this Lit course at Teacher Training where we've covered unit one, great news right? no? well it is for me ! 

Within that unit we learned about 25 (I honestly had about 27) trends in teaching writing. I'm not about to tell you about allllllllll 25 though, just my top three. 

*Y'all when you found out we're not doing all 25* 

Anyway, my top three were: 

1. Digital Story Telling- refers to telling stories via technological tools. 

2. Gallery Walk- Basically placing a series of pictures/symbols to allow students to walk through and take notes as if they were there at whatever the pictures/symbols represent.

3. Using wiki's and blogs to create, publish and distribute writing- My favorite. Hence why we are here ! ^_^ This is a perfect way for students who wish to become writers or students who like an audience to share their pieces for other to see. Which is exactly what I'm doing right now !

                              NOWWWWWWWWWWWWWW AFTER LEARNING THESE TRENDS, WE STUMBLED ON SEVEN CHALLENGES IN TEACHING WRITING.

Hush my darlings, this won't stop us because here comes our superhero TREND FI DI CHALLENGE to save the day !!

Our superhero told ussss that to address these challenges we can use the trends !! OMG He's so amazing ! Where would we be without him? He even gave us an example;

Challenge: Writing is a decontextualized task. Which means student are writing and are not experiencing the context, some rely on memory, while some have never experienced it. That's a big bump in the road. 

but how do we fix it?

Gallery Walk: Remember, I mentioned this earlier? With the gallery walk, the pictures will cause students to feel like they're actually there, all the excitement, the sadness, they will now be able to either refresh their memory, or finally experience it without actually going, either way here comes all the ideas for their writing and POOF ! Trend fi di challenge!

I had a wonderful time in class and because everyone demonstrated and explained a trend I was able to understand every single one. That Ms. Quinn sure is smart ain't she? 

I recommend that teachers whether specifically placed in teaching writing or not, gain as much knowledge as they can on these trends so they can help students who struggle in many different areas. There are so many trends that they over power the challenges, so why can't each child be helped? 

I also recommend that teachers make time to include these strategies into their teaching as the lesson becomes more entertaining and the key to students' learning is to actually have their attention.

Reflection on Trends and Challenges of Writing

What an interesting week and I can't wait to share with you ALLLL that I learnt!

Well, not all.... just the ones that really stood out. So, stay with me as we travel back in time...

There were twenty-five (25) trends in Writing that were given to us and since we are a class of twenty- five, it was only PUURFECT that we each took one.

What was even MORE genius was the fact that each student had to share what they knew about the trend they received, then 

demonstrate it with the class! And  it made the trends soooo understandable AND FUN! I also really liked that we were able to record for ourselves the meaning of each trend and what we thought about it after each demonstration. 

I especially liked publishing writing, maintaining a collection of writing to create a portrait of students' writing history, teaching writing explicitly (Gradual Release of Responsibility Model), digital story-telling (which by the way was what I demonstrated😃) and inquiry activities.

After given all the trends in writing I thought to myself that these are so perfect, there's NO WAY students could find writing hard! That was until I learnt of seven (7) challenges to teaching writing. 

Yep! writing requires many skills and so does the writer. But luckily my classmates and I thought of trends to combat these challenges!

I was really impressed (to say the least) at especially the gallery walk! I realized that I can create an adventure for my students right within the classroom using pictures or even live demonstrations so that they can 'write from experience'. But, think alouds were great too! On that note I have a confession to make....

I USE TO HATE WHEN STUDENTS SPEAK OUT LOUD WHILE WRITING BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY WERE DISTURBING THE CLASS. SO I WOULD SHOUT "READ IT IN YOUR HEAD!!!"

But no I've changed! I know now that it helps in their thinking and reading process because in writing, many processes are required at the same time. Lastly, my group demonstrated how digital story-telling can be used to overcome the challenge of writing lacking prosidy, body language and facial expression.

But guys before you start, if you are a teacher be sure have knowledge of the Trends in Writing and keep up-to-date on any new trend so as to implement them. Also, choose trends that are appropriate to the writing needs of your students. Furthermore, be vigilant in observing any challenge(s) so as to use specific trends/strategies to overcome them. My final advice is don't introduce a new trend until your students have mastered the one before!

" Trends in Teaching Writing and Challenges"

 Do you want to know what I have learnt in unit one, for Lit 102 Promoting Writing in the Primary Grades ?

Alright, I am so excited!

   

   Although I have learnt 25(twenty- five) interesting and engaging writing strategies, I would only share a few with you of the ones I really liked. The strategies which stood out to me are: Digital Storytelling, Teaching Writing explicitly, Gallery Walk, Monitoring a collection of writing to create a portrait and Think aloud for writing. I like these because there are different and interesting which would encourage the students to learn and stay focus. 

You want to know what I have really appreciated? I appreciate the fact that all the trends were demonstrated which help me to gain a clear understanding of how the trends work. Also, creating the mini booklet helped me to summarize what I have learnt in my own word so that reading over I would still have knowledge of the different trends and how they work.

Also, I learnt about the seven challenges in writing and the appropriate trends which are beneficial to me because I would be able to utilize the appropriate trends to prevent writing challenges. This would aid the students to develop their writing skills.

 

I think that teachers should utilize these trends in writing so that students will not have challenges when it come to writing. Also, if a students are having challenges in they writing teachers should utilize a trends that will deal with the challenges.
